List separator normalizer

World's simplest list tool

This is a super simple browser-based application that normalizes the separator character that goes between all items in a list. Often, list items are separated by various characters and with this application, you can match all these separating symbols in the input list and convert them into a single character. This operation is called list normalization. Created by list geeks from team Browserling.

Set the new normalized delimiter symbol.
List separator normalizer tool What is a list separator normalizer?
With this utility, you can simplify and clean up your list and change all item delimiter symbols to the same symbol. For example, if you have a dirty list with many different delimiters in it, you can quickly turn all these delimiters into one neat character (or a short string). The best way to match all input delimiters is to use a regular expression. To do this, you need to select the "Separators by Regexp" mode. Here are some useful regular expressions: /\s+/ – matches all whitespaces, /,|;/ – matches commas and semicolons, /\s*[,.]\s*/ – matches all commas or dots surrounded by whitespaces. You can also use the "Separators by Character" mode if the delimiter is the same between all the items. This mode is especially useful if you need to change one delimiter into another. To set the new delimiter, enter it in the "Normalized Delimiter" option. Listabulous!

List of Martial Arts
In this example, we normalize all delimiters in a list of various martial arts styles. In the original list, there are either commas, or periods, or semicolons between the types of martial arts. To match all these characters we use a regex "/[;,.]+/". In the output we put only the character ", " between list items and we get a neat comma-separated list.

Use a regular expression to match all the delimiters in the input list.
Separator regular expression, or character, or string.
Set the new normalized delimiter symbol.
Top Instagram Hashtags
In this example, we load a list of the top Instagram hashtags. Unfortunately, while copying the list, the computer had an error and we got a chaotic list with a bunch of empty separating characters. There are spaces, tabs, and newlines, which are all randomly placed throughout the list and its items. To normalize all this extra whitespace, we use the regular expression "/\s+/" to match it, and we replace it with a nice single space in the output.

Currency List
In this example, we're working with financial data and we need to normalize separators from semicolons to regular newlines. The input list has all its items separated by the "; " character so we enter it in the input list item separator option. The output list has all its items separated by the newline "\n" character so we enter it in the output list item separator option.
